One of the things we wanted to do this summer was to let each kid make supper.
Jake put together a menu and grocery list.
He got lucky because I already had the apples peeled, cut and prepped in the freezer.
I even let him put the apple crisp in the oven and get it out.
Then it was on to assembling the grilled cheese sandwiches. This seemed to take a long time, but then I realized that he rarely, if ever, spreads anything. He doesn't eat peanut butter sandwiches, he doesn't butter a roll, and he doesn't use butter or jelly on his toast generally. So, spreading the butter on the bread required a basically new skill. He got it done.
Then it was to the stove to cook them.
Flipping them took some coordination.
Then he used the can opener to open the black beans. He heated those up on the stovetop. Jake loves plain black beans.
Then he stirred up some Country Time for us to drink.
A very yummy meal made by Jake, and a little bit more appreciation on his part as to what it takes to put a meal on the table.
And for dessert - apple crisp!
With ice cream and caramel sauce...yum!
